Message from the Artistic Director
We are pleased to announce the fifth season of Live at Mission Blue. In the past five years we have established Mission Blue Center as one of the finest venues for live chamber music in the greater Bay Area. On behalf of the Friends of the Brisbane Library Board I would like to thank all who have contributed to making this success possible. The City Staff, City Council, businesses from the Chamber of Commerce and the many volunteers can all be proud of what we’ve accomplished.
To celebrate our fifth season, the Friends of the Brisbane Library commissioned a painting from resident Brisbane artist Moira Lucas. Moira is an established artist in Brisbane for 31 years, and in 2003 she received the Brisbane Mayor’s Artist Achievement Award. We are honored to showcase her work in our program. The work is meant to represent all the many fine artists who have appeared on stage throughout our history. We are proud of the talent we have attracted for the Live at Mission Blue concerts year after year, and thank Moira for her wonderful salute.
We are delighted to open the 5th Season with Clerestory (pronounced clear story), San Francisco's acclaimed new eight-man choral ensemble. The singers hail from Chanticleer and other familiar and well-loved ensembles and this is a not to be missed experience.
In January 2009, Farallon Recorder Quartet will give a school program for Brisbane Elementary School, followed by a Sunday afternoon Family Concert. To demonstrate our gratitude to the community for its continuous support, this Family Concert will have a special feature. Adults pay normal ticket prices, but children (under 18) with their families are invited to attend free of charge.
Ron McKean is a composer, harpsichordist and organist who is known for his extraordinary improvisational skills and facile keyboard technique. Following that performance, recording sessions will take place for 4 nights at Mission Blue on a new instrument recently I recently completed for Mr. McKean, and the finished CD will be released sometime during the 6th Season of Live at Mission Blue.
We look forward to seeing family and friends this coming season at Live at Mission Blue.
